The concept of Sablewood Village came about one afternoon in 2003 with the realization that we knew lots of talented artisans who sold their work only at local renaissance faires, and who worked only on a cash basis. In short, their difficulties in marketing their exquisite crafts centered on a lack of knowledge of how to start and keep a business running while simultaneously applying their creative energy toward their craft. Someday we may actually write a thesis on the economics of starving artists.
Sablewood Village was established as a stable platform in which artisans can enjoy the benefits of Internet marketing and the convenience of credit card payment processing while remaining independent to focus on what they do best. In addition to providing a web presence with targeted marketing for these private crafters, we also promote their work at live events they might not normally appear at, giving them even greater exposure to buyers. Think of the old neighborhood co-op, but all grown up in the Internet Age.
If you think about it, looking out for your shareholders' best interests is a sound business practice; we happen to think the same principle applies to everyone else, too. We are dedicated to the idea that, in helping each other succeed, we help ourselves succeed.
